Hull, Quebec @ Robert Guertin Arena with The Pixies.

First off, if you’re wondering why most of these posts are by me (Adam=drummer), the reason is, I’m the only member in the band that writes things down. So here it goes.

Tonight was a good show. As soon as we got off stage we went to the beer garden for some drinks, thanks to everybody who was giving us free beer. After The Pixies set finished we met Frank Black, Dave Lovering, Joey Santiago, and Kim’s sister Kelly Deal, she was a friendly smiley one. Kelly “I never get to shows early enough to see the opening bands, are you guys good?” After that we had to wait around for the merch to be counted. This always takes longer than it should. –Adam.

Montreal, Quebec @ CEPSUM Arena with The Pixies.

Woke up today and went to Tim Horton’s for lunch. Ordered a turkey sandwich (a very complex order), received a BLT sandwich. Whoops! Hung around hotel room most of the day. Our show went really well. The Pixies played an amazing show. They’re great every night, but this one was absolutely incredible. Brad, Ryan and I stood there watching in awe. Then once again, I waited for the merch count from12am-2am with our tour manager Alan. Ryan and Brad went straight to a pub. Went back to the hotel room, looked at the wall for a second, then took a cab to meet up with them. Stopped cab near pub to be bombarded by ladies of the night asking “you want a date honey?” Got to St. Elisabeth Pub, had a couple beers with Brad, Ryan, and some of our friends from Montreal, then ate a fantastic $1.50 slice of pizza and took cab back to hotel. -Adam

Montreal, Quebec @ CEPSUM Arena with The Pixies.

Today started off with the long drive from Toronto to Montreal. We’re used to long drives, but this one was special for a couple reasons. 1) Brad and Alan (tour manager) were in an angry standoff during most of the day over a disagreement yesterday (see Nov. 25). It was a silent treatment standoff. They’ll both deny this, but I know what I saw. 2) We stopped at Tim Horton’s for a coffee and the woman at the counter handling our food and drink had mass amounts of skin peeling, flaking and falling off her hand. Ryan had a really hard time finishing his drink with this image lingering in his mind. Tonight our show was okay, nothing special. After the show we went to The Green Room, where there was an after party. It was a messy, free beer kind of night. –Adam.

Toronto, Ontario @ Arrow Hall with The Pixies.

Brad and Alan (our tour manager) got into a fight over guitar picks, it’s a really long story and I don’t have the energy to tell it right now. Here’s a quick version. Brad needs picks and asks Alan to pick them up when he’s at the music shop. Alan doesn’t get him any. Brad gets mad. Alan gets mad. That’s it. Hi denim jacket Brad (friend of ours who was at tonight’s show). –Adam.

Toronto, Ontario @ Arrow Hall with The Pixies & The Kool Haus at The Casbys.

This was a crazy busy day. We had to be at The Kool Haus pretty early to soundcheck for The 2004 Casby awards. After that we went over to Arrow Hall for our soundcheck. Two shows in one night. First we opened for The Pixies at Arrow Hall, great show, really big crowd. As soon as we got off the stage we headed straight into a car and to The Casbys, good fun. We lost the award for “favorite new band” to The Trews. I called it. After we played we had an interview with Barry Taylor on 102.1 The Edge and a couple of TV interviews. My girlfriend Robyn was at this show and really hates me today for some reason (I didn’t do anything wrong…really). Steve Jocz (Stevo) of Sum 41 walks up to me back stage and says “Are you into scientology?” I reply “nope”, then he turns to Robyn and says “you’re one lucky lady”. I really don’t know what this means, or the scientology question. There were more strange encounters and conversations with other people, but I’m not going to write them in here (I’d want to ask them permission first). Then Ryan and I headed to the after party at The Bovine Sex Club. Brad, Alan (our tour manager) and Mozzer (our friend from England) had left about half hour before we did and got into the club easily. Not the case for Ryan and me. We stood in the rain, refused entry by the door man, to an after party for a show we just played. Finally after about fifteen minutes we decided, we either we go back to the hotel, or we call Alan inside to get us in. We called Alan he got us in. Soaking wet, but still fun. –Adam.

Hamilton Music Awards @ The Dofasco Centre for the Arts

We won 2 awards tonight. First was “Local Group Of The Year by People’s Choice”, thanks to everybody who voted for us, and second was “Best New Artist/Group”. Later in the awards show we played “I Believe”. That’s about it. –Adam.

Hamilton, Ontario @ The Underground

Great turnout, really fun show! It was great to come back from tour and have a packed hometown show. It was also great to hang out with all our friends and The Miniatures boys. Excellent night! –Adam.

Here’s a long non-stop drive. We left Medicine Hat “The Gas City”, Alberta at 9am Tuesday and didn’t stop (for more than snacks, etc) until we got home, Hamilton, Ontario Wednesday night at around 11pm. We drove through 3 time zones and 4 provinces in a 24 hour span, with a total drive time of 37 hours. Many sleeping pills and Red Bulls later we finally get home. It was a torture test. –Adam.

Victoria, BC @ Central Bar with Lowest of the Low

Good show, good turnout. I got mad at Alan (tour manager). Long story. I had a temper flare up and then it was okay. After the show, we hung out with our friends in Pilate. Good to see them again. Guys from Boy were at the show too. Nice fellas. A lot of drinks. The only really weird part of the night was the crazy meatheads. Twisted guys, you don’t even want to know what they were talking about (it grossed me out). Not much more to say really. –Adam.

Vancouver, BC @ Richard's on Richards with Lowest of the Low.

Really early gig 7:30pm for New Music West festival. Fair turnout. We played well tonight. After the show I went to a peep show/sex toy shop for laughs with Steve, Ron, Dave (LOTL) and our friends at around 3am (we were all a lot messy by now). Ron wanted to know what it was like in the peep show booths, so I volunteered. When I got to the counter to change my $3 into tokens, the guy at the counter said “You really don’t want to go in there, you really, really don’t”. That was weird, so I walked out, handed the $3 to Ron. Before he walked in he promised he would write down what happened in this strange peep show universe, and then he made the plunge. He came out with “people are made of wood” scribbled on a piece of cardboard. A huge guy with a long red coat, red hoody and red beard followed Ron and Steve closely (1 foot away) to the pizza shop Dave and I were at. Dave “Hey Ron, who’s the big red guy?” Lost sparkly Gibson guitar. I know this doesn’t make sense. –Adam.

Calgary, Alberta @ Mount Royal College with Lowest of the Low

Great crowd. A lot of energy in the room. Big Buck Hunter, fun party and silly Baxter missed it all! *wink*-Adam

Edmonton, Alberta @ Side Track Café with Lowest of the Low

Terrible crowd, it was like a bingo hall in there, for both bands. Tables almost right up against the stage, long faces, golf claps and drool. All that was missing were some dabbers, fanny packs, and playcards. It could have been an awesome bingo tournament! Probably the least inspired crowd I’ve ever seen. Most of these people should have stayed at home in front of their TVs. Shame, shame. Some of the people were alright it was mostly just the amount of tables. Weird since every other time we’ve been in this city it has been rockarific.–Adam.

Sunday was going to be a travel day on our way to Banff for a show. Five minutes outside of Saskatoon, the van broke down. We were really lucky this wasn’t two hours later. We would have been in the middle of “no man’s land.” Anyways, we broke down, cabbed back to the hotel and turned it into a rest day. Sauna, hot tub, pool, hot tub, pool, etc. Later that night around 11pm we went down to the pub attached to the hotel where we met up with all of the Low guys, Kat (our merch girl), Alan (tour manager) and Mark (LOTL’s guitar tech). Alan was stumbling around pounding glasses of scotch, mumbling and playing Big Buck Hunter with a southern accent on. Hung out for a couple hours, had some drinks, then went back to our room. Slept.
Monday. Van was fixed at 2pm, too late for us to make it to the Banff show. Cancelled. Started the drive to Edmonton. By the way, this is the worst traveling situation ever. Me, Brad, Ryan, Alan, Kat, Lawrence, Ron, Steve, Dylan, Dave and Mark all in a 12 seater van, with a trailer attached for our gear. Not only is the van stuffed, it’s impossible to maneuver. It’s fun and terrible at the same time. –Adam.

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan @ Louie's Pub with Lowest of the Low

Good breakfast at Humpty’s (I ate a dish called “fruitfully French”). Another weird show. Too many tables and people sitting. Kind of like playing diner theatre. Shame on you Saskatoon. Although we’ve been here before, never noticed how nice of a city Saskatoon actually is. –Adam, Ryan.

Regina, Saskatchewan @ The State with Lowest of the Low

We all watched a British comedy called “Black Books” in the van while traveling. Really funny show about a rude, wine drinking, chain smoker who runs a book store. Anyways, fun show tonight, great energy from the crowd. During LOTL’s set Brad went up and played “Eternal Fatalist” on stage with them. Good, fun night. –Adam.

Travel day from Chicago to Winnipeg. The only spectacular thing today is the amount I’ve eaten. Donut, toffee, smoothie, ruben sandwich, French (freedom) fries, 2 bags of Hot n’ Spicy Crunchies, chocolate bar, cheese curds, 2 hot dogs, pepperoni stick, bagel and a croissant. Sometimes you eat to kill the boredom of these seriously long drives. Today that’s what I did. –Adam.

Chicago, Ill @ The Double Doors with Lowest of the Low

Good show, fair turnout. After the show we went down to the bars first floor and watched in shock as George W. Bush beat John Kerry in the U.S. election. After that we went back to our shady hotel and slept. –Adam.

Today was a travel day from Hamilton to Chicago. I spilled half a cup of coffee on my shoe and had to walk around all day with coffee soaked feet. That’s it –Adam.
