Canada Comes Calling - Parallel 49 Tour

This September sees the UK facing something of a mini invasion by five of Canada's most up and coming alternative musical acts - The Marble Index, The Miniatures, Pilate, Lowest Of The Low and Hunter Eves.

Under the banner 'Canada Comes Calling - Parallel 49', this short five date tour centres' around exclusive showcase events in London and Manchester (at the infamous 'In The City' music festival) with three additional regional dates at specialist rock clubs / nights.

Following on from the recent UK success stories of fellow countrymen The Stills, Hot Hot Heat and The Hidden Cameras get ready to ride on the next wave of critically acclaimed Canadian music !

Band Mini Biographies

The Marble Index
Hamilton Ontario rock trio The Marble Index stand before you without trickery or gimmick, delivering something vital and genuine. They have taken cues from The Smiths, Big Star, The Clash and Small Faces -each a peak of a musical aesthetic- and went about creating something that would be distinctly their own. With their first single, 'I Believe', rousing a ready populace, they have already toured in support of such artists as The Pixies and Powderfinger in preparation for their debut self-titled album release in Canada August 24. In fact The Pixies were so impressed they have invited the band back for further support slots in Canada this autumn !

The Miniatures
In spite of their name, The Miniatures have always thought in the largest possible terms. To begin with, the five-piece from Kitchener, Ontario -- were always too big for their hometown. Although friends since their high school days in the early '90s, it was a common love of the era's alternative rock revolution that inspired them to form the band. With an album full of contagious pop hooks and a scorching live show, the band is winning over audiences with their debut album 'Coma Kid'.

Pilate
The guys from Pilate - Todd Clark (lead vocals), Ruby Bumrah (bass/vox), Chris Greenough (guitar) and Bill Keeley (drums) - have truly earned the recognition they now find themselves receiving. Of course, all the hard work in the world won't help a band without a definable sound, and it is here that the members of Pilate truly excel. They craft swelling soundscapes with an intellect and ability far beyond their years and painstakingly create songs with an ear that belies their love of orchestral pop. With a live show that stands up to the promise of their records and their words, they are poised to build on their successes in spectacular fashion.

Lowest Of The Low
Lowest of the Low is a five-piece band from Toronto, Canada that has amassed a legion of devoted fans and countless critical accolades over the years. Known for their blistering live shows and powerful, intelligent songs, the band is set to release a new album with the title 'Sordid Fiction' this autumn. Their acclaimed debut album, 'Shakespeare My Butt' inspired a British author to write a book of the same name, a fact that wouldn't surprise their devoted fan base at home. The Low thus far have in the region of 100,000 record sales under their belt and with a knack for making new friends and turning heads wherever they go, the band is very pleased to be visiting the UK for the first time.

Hunter Eves
Hunter Evescontinues to spend the better part of her days creating deft, challenging music that smashes the box of convention into firewood kindling. She is quickly becoming renowned for her ingenious and fascinating experiments with keyboard sounds, fused with a wildly imaginative lyrical sensibility. Escaping the common trap-falls of clichéd sentiment and formulaic arrangements, Hunter incorporates elements cut from a wide swathe of styles. Her new album has the clarity of a Kate Bush mated with bombastic Led Zeppelin style drums and a cyclone of saccharine coated audio stimulation in between. Sound interesting? Simply put, it sounds amazing.
